When applying wood veneer by hand (especially thick hard wood veneer with a thickness of 20 to 150 microns), the problem of "intact at the time of application but cracking and bubbling after painting" often occurs, which not only affects the appearance of the furniture but may also cause rework losses. In fact, as long as one masters scientific methods and combines them with professional tools, this problem can be effectively avoided, and choosing the right glue is the core key.


1. Choose the right glue: Reduce the risk of cracking from the source
The performance of the glue directly determines the stability of the wood veneer bonding. Manual veneering especially requires special products suitable for thick wood veneers. Ordinary glue dries slowly and requires long-term ironing, which can easily cause the wood veneer to lose water and crack. Quick-drying veneer adhesive can significantly shorten the operation cycle and reduce the probability of wood veneer damage.
Fushen GW-6565 veneer adhesive is a targeted solution. It is suitable for various materials such as thick and hard wood veneer, dyed wood veneer, and engineered wood veneer, and can be used to bond flat or curved surfaces. Its feature of drying in 3 to 5 seconds can prevent the wood veneer from losing water due to prolonged ironing. At the same time, it has the restorative property of "being able to stick again after drying", and even if there is a small deviation during bonding, it can be adjusted. More importantly, it can ensure that the wood veneer does not bubble or crack after being painted, solving the core pain point from the root.

2. Do not perform water-drawing operations on thick wood veneers
Some workers will wet thick wood veneers for easier bonding, but the moisture will prolong the ironing time. Moreover, during the drying process of the wood veneer, the moisture loss is uneven, which can easily cause the fibers to shrink and deform, and eventually lead to cracking. The correct approach is to directly use dry wood veneer and pair it with Fushen GW-6565 veneer adhesive. It can be easily adhered without getting wet, which not only simplifies the operation but also avoids the potential risks caused by moisture.

Third, apply adhesive on both sides and trim the edges in time to enhance the firmness of the bond
Thick wood veneer bonding should adopt the "double-sided gluing" process: bonding should be carried out when the glue on the wood veneer is completely dry and the glue on the base material is in a semi-dry state. This can maximize the adhesive force and prevent peeling and cracking in the later stage.

After lamination, the excess wood veneer should be dealt with immediately. Timely trimming can prevent stress concentration along the cut edge of the wood veneer during subsequent trimming, thereby reducing the risk of cracking. This operation, combined with the strong adhesive force of the rich deep veneer adhesive, can make the wood veneer closely adhere to the base material, further reducing the possibility of cracking.
Fourth, precisely control the temperature for ironing to prevent damage from high temperatures
Excessively high ironing temperature can cause the wood veneer to lose water rapidly, resulting in uneven contraction of fibers and cracking. Non-professional irons cannot precisely control the temperature, which can easily lead to problems. It is recommended to choose a professional veneered iron with adjustable temperature, such as the Fushen GW-1211 ironing iron.

This iron is specially designed for hand-pasting wood veneer. The temperature can be adjusted between 80℃ and 200℃. When pasting thick wood veneer, the 160℃ setting can be selected to precisely match the pasting requirements. It heats up quickly and has a good constant temperature effect. It not only ensures the bonding effect but also avoids damage to the wood veneer caused by high temperature. Five, there are techniques in joint treatment to prevent cracking at the interface
When applying thick wood veneer by hand and encountering seams, the wood veneer should overlap by 1mm to 2mm. Only after the wood veneer is completely dry should it be sanded. If the overlapping part is directly scraped off, the adhesive force at the joint will be insufficient, and it is prone to cracking due to external force or environmental changes in the later stage. After drying, sanding can make the transition at the seams natural while ensuring the adhesion. Combined with the stable performance of the Fushen adhesive, it can prevent the seams from cracking for a long time.
