What factors can affect the quality of solid wood paneling?

When it comes to solid wood paneling, the issue of paneling quality cannot be overlooked! As more and more traditional solid wood furniture factories are entering a period of decline and decline, an increasing number of custom home furnishing products are emerging. The passing of more and more experienced solid wood paneling talents and manufacturers has led to many paneling techniques becoming weak points in traditional solid wood paneling.

What factors can affect the quality of solid wood paneling? Fushen Woodworking Glue will bring you some answers to the factors that affect solid wood paneling.

Factors affecting the quality of panel assembly

1. The ratio of the main agent to the curing agent and the uniformity of their stirring

Appropriate ratio :100:10~15. Low curing agent: The glue cannot be fully cross-linked, with a low degree of cross-linking, which affects the bonding performance. High curing agent: Short active period of the glue; The adhesive layer is relatively hard. The glue is not mixed evenly: the color depth varies, the degree of glue bonding and curing speed are inconsistent, and the cracking rate of the glue line is high

2. Glue activity period

The active period of glue is closely related to the working environment in which it is used: when the temperature is high and the relative humidity is low, the active period of the glue is short. Conversely, the active period of the glue is longer.

The applicable active period of GW-1505/H-66:

At 20-25℃ and 55-60% : < 60 minutes;

At 25-30℃ and 55-60% : < 45 minutes;

At 35-40℃ and 55-60% : less than 30 minutes; Glue that has exceeded its applicable active period is manifested as foaming, poor fluidity, and a significant decrease in the adhesive force of the glue. The continued use has a significant impact on the quality of the plywood: the wood breakage rate is low, the water/heat resistance is poor, and the glue line is thick and obvious.

3. Coating method, coating amount and its uniformity

For hardwoods (such as red oak, white oak, and American hard maple), it is advisable to apply adhesive on both sides, with a coating amount of more than 150g/m2 on each side. For softwood, especially wood with strong adsorption performance, the adhesive coating amount should be more than 250g/m2.

For other types of wood: The amount of glue applied is 220g-280 m ². When the amount of glue applied is insufficient: no glue will be squeezed out from the glue joint or continuous teardrop-like glue drops cannot be formed. The influence of insufficient adhesive in the adhesive layer on the quality of the panel... The influence and reflection of OPEN TIME

Hardwoods (such as red oak, white oak, and American hard maple), especially those with weak adsorption performance :6-10 minutes; Wood with poor adsorption performance requires a longer aging time to form more glue nails.

Softwood (such as fir, fresh pine, etc.) especially wood with strong adsorption performance :4-6 minutes to avoid excessive absorption of the glue by the wood. Excessive aging time will result in overly thick glue lines and cause a lack of glue in the glue layer (too much glue being absorbed by the wood), failing to form a sufficient glue film.

4. Moisture content of wood and the uniformity of its distribution

The suitable moisture content of wood is 7-15%, but 8-12% is the best. The moisture content difference of wood on the same panel shall not exceed 2%, and the moisture content difference of adjacent wood strips on the same panel shall not exceed 1%. When the moisture content changes too much: The stress generated during the drying shrinkage and moisture absorption (water) expansion of wood is different, which can easily cause cracking of wood or glue lines, especially for hardwood and other woods with large stress (large deformation), as well as defects such as board bending and height differences at the joints.

5. Quality of wood surface processing

The glued surface of the wood should be flat, smooth, free of oil stains and not bent. The adjacent surfaces of the wood form right angles. The processing error of the glued surface of wood shall not exceed 0.5mm. When the adjacent surfaces of the wood are not at right angles or the processing error is too large :1) It is easy to cause uneven pressure during panel assembly (some parts are under excessive pressure or some have no pressure at all), and it is also easy to cause wood to be underpacked or some parts to lack glue, thereby affecting the quality of panel assembly.

The internal stress of wood is relatively large. After the pressure is released, the plywood is prone to cracking of the glue lines under the action of stress.

6. The curing period of the panels

After the panels are depressified, they should be cured for 24 hours before proceeding to the next processing step. After depressurization, the bonding strength of the spliced plates showed a gradually increasing trend and reached the highest after 168 hours. Under normal circumstances, the bonding strength of the panels can only be sufficient to resist the influence of external forces (such as mechanical processing like cutting, forming and sanding) after they are depressified and cured for 24 hours. When the curing time is insufficient: During the subsequent processing and handling, the external force is prone to cause the glue line to crack and the seam to sink.

Finally, improving the quality of the panels and using different adhesives for different types of wood panels is also crucial. Here we recommend a type of glue, the Fushen Hardwood Special Panel Glue GW-1505. It has a sibling called "Fushen Beech Special Panel Glue GW-1505J", which is the first of its kind created by Fushen specifically for beech wood. For beech wood plywood, I recommend everyone to use it
